Malibu Surfside News June 18, 2009
The Malibu Veterinary Clinic, located on Pt. Dume, is now under new ownership. John Lupo, who purchased the hospital in May, graduated with his veterinary degree from Kansas State University in 1995. Located in the Pt. Dume Professional Center, the Malibu Veterinary Clinic will be open six days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mon- day through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Lupo is offering a variety of services including medical, surgical and nutritional and dietary consultations; he previously worked for a board-certified nutritionist. Nutrition is an important aspect for an overall healthy animal, said Lupo. Lupo is also offering after-hours emergency services as well as house calls.
I want to live within 10 minutes of the clinic for emergencies, he recently said. Jose Luis, who worked at Pet Headquarters., will also come on board. Boarding will also be available for small dogs and cats. Still getting settled in the area, Lupo says that his wife Evelien and children Francesca, five, Cosette, three, and six-month-old Madeus, will be joining him soon from Northern California. He noted that Evelien is a professional photographer, and he hopes she will add a local pet photography business. After graduation, Lupo was a public health officer for the Air Force and has worked in private practice. He was also the Deputy State Public Health veterinarian in Kansas, where he focused on zoonoses, or diseases transmitted from animals to humans. For the last five years, Lupo has been in Northern California, where he worked at the UC Davis teaching hospital for four months and was in a private practice in Sacramento while studying for his board exams. Lupo is looking forward to his and his family’s new life in Malibu and the ability to provide outstanding veterinary services to Mal-ibuites. I’ve wanted to own my own clinic since I became a veterinarian, he said. Its been a longterm goal of mine. For more information on Malibu Veterinary Clinic, call 310-457-6453.
